Drawing of the Dilophosaurus from the upcoming film Jurassic World Rebirth, created with Prismacolor Nupastels and Faber-Castell pastel pencils on 8 x 6in Strathmore toned tan paper.
Overall, I like the design of the Dilophosaurus. Aside from the changes in coloration, the general anatomy is very reminiscent of its predecessor in the original Jurassic Park film. Of course, that representation still includes a number of anatomical inaccuracies (the expanding frill, the projectile venom, the pronated wrists, etc.), but it is such a beautiful and iconic design that I am excited to see it carried forward within the Jurassic World films.
The only anatomical inaccuracy that I would love to see corrected with this dinosaur is its size. In previous films, the Dilophosaurus was portrayed at about a third of its adult size. Later films could have easily explained that the original Isla Nublar specimen was simply a juvenile. But the Jurassic World Rebirth trailer seems to suggest that seeing a fully-grown Dilophosaurus is an opportunity that will, at least for now, remain left on the table. Regardless, Dilophosaurus is an impressive animal, and I am excited to see it featured once more on the big screen.
As for the upcoming film, all I can say is...
Please be good! Please be good! Please be good!
