Drawing of the Mosasaurus from the upcoming film Jurassic World Rebirth, created with Prismacolor Nupastels and Faber-Castell pastel pencils on 8 x 6in Strathmore toned tan paper.
Overall, I like the design of the Mosasaurus. Aside from the changes in coloration, the general anatomy is very reminiscent of its predecessor in the first Jurassic World film. I am curious to see how its physical size is represented, as this has been a source of much inconsistency throughout the previous films.
Even more interesting is the decision to portray the Mosasaurus as having a symbiotic relationship with a number of Spinosaurus, to the point of hunting a boat in a coordinated effort. Even if these animals had not occupied distinctly different time periods and geological locations, it is difficult to imagine a Spinosaurus as anything other than prey in this situation, especially considering the exaggerated size of the Mosasaurus. Regardless, Mosasaurus is an impressive animal, and I am excited to see it featured once more on the big screen.
As for the upcoming film, all I can say is...
Please be good! Please be good! Please be good!
