Description
Forever is Relative

Familiar eyes that I once loved
Distant, dancing past like strangers
If you were right about one thing
It was that everything changes
Even as you took to flight
I stayed guardian to our dreams
Left to wash out with the tide
Before beaches never seen
So taken by your promises
But I should have realized
The only time you meant forever
Was the time you said, "Goodbye"

Was it just a pleasant thought?
To pass the time on our way toward the end?
Was it more than I deserved?
Or was it nothing but a word?

Longing to break the routine
Is it all you hoped to be?
Once someone's entire world
Now robed in greek conformity
Your skirt just barely long enough
To conceal a sovereign girl
Covering all of yourself
That you've opened to the world
You passed me up so easily
Traded for a fleeting phase
Tell me, how many "I love you's"
Had no meaning to the phrase?

Was it just a pleasant thought?
    (Forget your promises)
To pass the time on our way toward the end?
    (Forever is relative)
Was it more than I deserved?
    (Forget forever)
Or was it nothing but a word?
    (Forget forever)

Has any hint been worth my breath?
Or has the end been for the best?
When did the choice become so clear?
You're happier without me here?

Forget your promises
(They weren't worth their weight in tears)
        (Forget forever)
Forever is relative
(The words that left me sinking here)
        (Forget forever)
Forget your promises
    (Left drowning in your apathy)
        (Forget forever)
Forever is relative
(To wonder if you ever really loved me)
        (Forget forever)

Forget forever
Forget forever
