I had initially planned to draw her as Santa Barbara's favorite detective, Juliet O'Hara from the hit television series Psych. But in my search for the perfect reference image, I happened upon a completely different photo that was too beautiful to ignore.
In another twist, I began this piece intending only to create a monochrome composition using Staedtler graphite pencils and General's white charcoal pencil on 8 x 6in Strathmore toned tan paper. But halfway through I felt the irresistible need to add color and finished the portrait with a soft overlay of Faber-Castell pastel pencils and Prismacolor Verithin colored pencils.
